Contributor Alexandra Carter is a PhD student in English at Tufts University specializing in Early Modern literature and drama with a particular focus on fashion and material culture in the period. Her research interests include the politics of clothing, transvestism, the intersection of fashion and legal histories, gender, sexuality, and desire. Prior to commencing her PhD program, Alexandra studied Medieval and Renaissance Studies and Italian Literature at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Her thesis, “Ornamenting Richard II,” examined the material constitution of kingship on the Shakespearean stage. She also teaches a History of European Fashion course on a study abroad program for high school students in Florence, Italy during the summer.
