Advance the museum’s Latino presence through collections, exhibitions, programs, development, and other initiatives. The Associate Curator will recommend acquisitions, organize a major exhibition of Latino artworks from the collection, and develop bilingual activities that will encourage broad appreciation for Latino cultures.
Exhibition responsibilities include proposing a thesis for an exhibition drawn from the museum’s collection, researching artworks, and writing a major essay for the exhibition catalogue that addresses significant issues in the field. The Associate Curator of Latino Art will collaborate with program staff to develop gallery activities and an on-line presence related to the museum’s Latino collection. The Associate Curator will assist the development office in identifying potential donors and partners for short- and long-term initiatives that ensure the future of Latino Art within the museum’s program.
A graduate degree (Ph.D. preferred) in art history, American studies, cultural studies, or a related field is preferred. Applicants must demonstrate broad knowledge of U.S. Latino art and culture across the full spectrum of Latino communities and an ability to research and write about the full range of art media (paintings, murals, sculptures, photography, prints, drawings,crafts, folk art, and video). The museum seeks to broadly represent art across all U.S. Latino communities, in all media, from various periods, and by artists from different Latino ethnicities and communities. Applicants will be rated on breadth of knowledge, as well as experience in the areas of scholarship, exhibition organization, collections management, and public program development on the theme of Latino art. The Fiber Department of Maryland Institute College of Art invites applications for a full-time faculty appointment with a multi-year renewable contract in a non-tenure institution.
The College seeks an outstanding, accomplished artist who is committed to both the tradition and the exploration of current and new innovations in the Fiber field with a strong conceptual and historical understanding of the media in the fine arts context. The studio artist/ educator will teach eighteen credits per year (three courses per semester) at an art school nationally known for its dedication to teaching excellence, a rigorous liberal arts curriculum and the importance of the fine arts. The candidate will be capable of teaching all levels of the undergraduate program, be proficient in traditional techniques and a broad understanding of new approaches to the fiber medium with a specialty in the emerging area of digital fiber-related technologies and Smart Textiles and have a visionary relationship to the newly established Experimental Fashion Concentration. As faculty in a Fiber program, the candidate should have a broad understanding of the fiber practice and be knowledgeable of contemporary art issues and theory. The candidate should have the ability to integrate theoretical, material, practical and social issues into fiber studio pedagogy. Some administrative experience will be valued.

- An understanding of the implications of design and fine arts practice in relationship to broader social, cultural, economic, scientific and technological forces (an engagement with the contemporary art/design of Asia, Africa, Europe or Latin America and/or African Americans, Latinos, or Native Americans is highly desirable.
- University teaching experience, with preference for experience that includes a combination of studios, seminars and tutorials, coupled with a proven track record of working well with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, professional training and aesthetic sensibilities.
- Ability to organize and lead research. Interest in developing serious critical, historical, and theoretical discussions around material research and design in the classroom/studio.
- Ability to develop and nurture individual student’s design abilities and a strong commitment to progressive design education
- Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to organize, manage and display a collection
- An interest in working collaboratively within Parsons, the University, and with external partners towards the development of shared projects and initiatives
- Demonstrated commitment to sustainability, socially responsible methods and ethical practices in design
- Engagement with the contemporary art/design of Asia, Africa, Europe or Latin America and/or African Americans, Latinos, or Native Americans is highly desirable
