About: Rebecca

Contributor Rebecca Evans writes from Australia about the behind the scenes of a curator.
Rebecca has worked as an Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts and Design at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney on a number of key exhibitions. These include Love Lace Powerhouse Museum International Lace Award, 2011, Frock Stars: 15 Years of Australian Fashion Week, 2010 and Ties with Tradition: Macedonian Apron Designs, 2009. She has also worked in the Registration department as an Assistant Registrar focusing on collection management.
Rebecca is also obsessed with vintage clothing and sewing and makes many of her own clothes. This last year she even completed the costume design for Kanye the Musical performed at the University of Sydney. You can follow some of her sewing triumphs and failures on her personal blog.
Her current research looks at the influence of Indian made textiles on Colonial Australian dress before 1820.
