International Conference of Dress Historians
Saturday, 5 November 2016
The Art Workers’ Guild, 6 Queen Square, London, WC1N 3AT, United Kingdom
Traditionally, ‘fashion’ has been framed by dress historians as a cultural phenomenon that started at the end of the Dark Ages, and which gained momentum over the course of the Early Modern period and the eighteenth century. However, with progressivist histories, and the term Dark Ages itself, becoming increasingly problematic from a historiographical perspective, the ADH believes it is time for dress history to explore and challenge this model.
The Keynote Address will be delivered by Professor Emeritus Aileen Ribeiro, The Courtauld Institute of Art, London, and titled, ‘Truth and Imagination: How Real Is Clothing in Art?’
All conference tickets include tea and networking sessions, a buffet luncheon, and a wine reception to conclude the conference. Conference tickets are £25 for ADH Members and are now on sale. To receive the reduced members’ ticket rate of £25, enter the promotional code, ADH, in the box provided on the online ticketing page.
