The Applied Arts stand in the focal point of this series of annual conferences, launched by the Department History of Textile Arts (The Werner and Margaret Abegg Chair of the History of Textile Arts) in 2011. The 2016 Research Camp will be the first in the series to be organised and arranged by the doctoral students of the chair. Apart from proposing networking on an international level, the Research Camp enables young scholars to discuss their research projects, from various sub-disciplines of the Applied Arts (such as glass, ceramics, metals, textiles) in a circle of colleagues. It is the aim of the conference to develop and advance a methodical access to objects deriving from material culture beyond discussing the individual contributions. The program of the Research Camp is complemented by a visit of the world-renowned Abegg-Stiftung in Riggisberg.
Young scholars focusing on object-based research in the field of the Applied Arts as part of their (Ph.D. or habilitation) project are encouraged to respond to this Call for Papers. Neither geographical nor time-based limitations are imposed. Contributions focussing on the use and meaning of objects in artistic and social contexts are particularly welcome. The costs for overnight-stays in Bern are covered, the planning commission strives to cover the travel expenses as well.
