It looks like in the next couple years there’ll be a host of new books on the subject of apparel and crime. These books aren’t published yet, but I cannot wait to read them! Most seem to be the compilation of numerous research projects and presentations.
Professor Frankie Bailey of the University at Albany is working on Strip Search: Crime, Justice and Clothing in American Culture which features topics ranging from slavery and clothing to Zoot suits to contemporary American youth. She has written and presented a great on this topic and also is a fiction writer focused on crime novels.
Professor Jo Turney of Bath Spa University edited the book Fashion Crimes: Dressing for Deviance which covers hoodie and trench-coats, Hip Hop styling, and even fashion models. It has numerous scholars writing pieces from the US and UK so the varied perspectives will probably add interest.
