London Fashion Umbrella looks at Olympic Uniforms and Opening Costumes

With just a few days to the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games, it’s hard to ignore the buzz, even if like me, you aren’t an avid sports enthusiast.  I expect mainly to check out what the athletes and participants are wearing and am also hoping that streetstyle bloggers make it to the Games to snap the best and bizarrest of what the spectators will be sporting.

Following up on Selina’s video post presenting public opinion on Ralph Lauren’s designs for Team USA, here are two video clips that put the spotlight on dress for team GB and the upcoming London Opening Ceremony.

Here’s a clip of fashion designer Stella McCartney discussing her designs for Team GB, which also features comments from the athletes on the design and functionality of their kits.

Then hear the creative voices behind the costume and set design in this interview with designers Suttirat Anne Larlarb  and Mark Tildesley.

I had hoped to also recommend some books for further reading on Olympic Uniforms, but surprisingly, there doesn’t appear to be a definitive book on the topic. So, if you are looking for a worthy research topic, this seems to be an area warranting attention and what better time to start than on the eve of what promises to be a stylish Summer Olympic games?
