Video Post: London Umbrella Fashions

One of the exhibition and research ideas that keeps me awake at night, or daydreaming on grey London days, is a history of the umbrella. (If you are researching or have done work on this topic – get in touch!)

So although the weather here has taken a turn for the bright and dry, I  thought it would be an opportune time to share this video of an umbrella fashion show in London from 1956.

There are some covetably wonderful items in this clip – and that includes the model’s eyebrows and and the whimsical backdrop. Enjoy, and send your umbrella wisdom through as comments!

This is darling! I absolutely love the guitar umbrella!!! Thanks for posting. I just purchased an umbrella today. Maybe I’ll include an image in my post for next Friday.

I love that there is a fur trimmed number! As if even the average 50s woman could afford or find multiple umbrellas practical.
