Video Post: Ebony Fashion Fair and Eunice Johnson

This 2011 video clip from CBS News highlights the legacy of the late Eunice W. Johnson, wife of John H. Johnson, founder of Ebony and Jet Magazine. Mrs. Johnson founded the Ebony Fashion Fair in the 1950s as a scholarship fundraiser. Along the way, Johnson broke color barriers within the fashion industry. Last October, 80 lots of Johnson’s personal wardrobe as well as more than 600 lots from the archives of the Ebony Fashion Fair were auctioned at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago, Illinois. This auction boasted designers such as Jacqueline de Ribes, Claude Montana, Christian Lacroix and Oscar de la Renta.

Vogue’s André Leon Talley briefly recounts his travels with Eunice Johnson here.
