A picture is supposedly worth a thousand words.  They aren’t always kind.  When the first images of Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman for NBC’s new series appeared they had a far from warm reception. People were furious about the costume and speculation that not even the pilot would air began to circulate as a result. However, new video and images have surfaced which show that the costume that incited so much uproar has been changed, demonstrating the strength of impact the voce populi has in entertainment.

It also indicates how important costume really is in shaping people’s perceptions of characters, and even entire productions.

What other shows or films can you think of where the costume — bad or good — affected either your perceptions and ability to enjoy the production, or the perceptions and enjoyment of viewers in general?

Special thanks to Monica, who worked with me to put this post together.
