Job Description

Participates in the Library’s Instruction and Information Literacy program by teaching research classes, workshops, leading general Library orientations, and engaging opportunities to promote information literacy across the curriculum. Works within Research and Instructional Services to develop and apply innovative learning technologies and resources (instructional publications or handouts, pre- and post-testing assessment instruments such as online questionnaires or surveys). Expected to participate in innovative Library projects. Answers research questions and directional inquiries – in-person as well as by phone, e-mail and chat – from students, faculty and a wide variety of visiting researchers who require access to our specialized collections. Communicate with department(s) served by the subject area on all matters regarding the Library, its collections and its services. Monitor budget and select materials and other resources in any assigned subject area(s). Review and evaluate databases, periodicals and reference books; weed and refine collection. Attend meetings both on-campus and off for current awareness concerning reference and instructional services. Represent the Library at other College functions (workshops, committees, student orientations) Attend and participate in Research and Instructional Services and other scheduled Library faculty meetings. Serve on Library and college-wide committees and task forces. Attend professional meetings, seminars, workshops and conferences. Review professional literature to keep current in library trends and instruction. Must possess and demonstrate excellent customer service skills, tact and the ability to work with a diverse constituency.


ALA accredited MLS; Minimum two years of professional experience in reference and instruction in an academic library; potential for leadership in a collaborative setting; positive attitude and effective communication and teaching skills; enthusiasm for an innovative and changing environment; interest in online instructional methods and tools to enhance all forms of library instruction and services; familiarity with a variety of teaching methods and learning theories including, collaborative, synchronous and asynchronous, constructivist, and active learning; knowledge of information literacy concepts, trends, standards and pedagogies; experience in conducting formal assessment of programs, instruction, and educational outcomes. Excellent interpersonal, computer, presentation and written communication skills.

Supervisor: Head of Research and Instructional Services

Days/ Hours: As scheduled by the Department. Schedule subject to change based on the needs of the Department.

Effective: Immediately

Rate: $36.56-$61.47 range (Salary Group 98/0)
