Call for Papers

The Costume Society is arranging a study day at the London College of Fashion dedicated to all aspects of couture clothing production and consumption.

We are looking for speakers to present recent research into the field of Couture and are especially interested in investigating discreet aspects of couture design and production.

If you are currently conducting research into, or have an existing piece of work on, any of the following areas and would like to have your paper considered for this study day then we want to hear from you!

  • Couturiers lives and work
  • The technique of couture production
  • Decorative elements of couture
  • The couture system and the economy of couture
  • Couture clients
  • Materials and specialist techniques
  • Diagnostic of individual couture garments
  • Presentation of couture in the fashion media

If you feel that you are able to give a formal illustrated presentation of either 20 minutes or 50 minutes to an audience of students, teachers and lecturers, researchers, curators, collectors, designers and makers then please send your brief CV details with an abstract of no more than 500 words on your proposed area of presentation electronically to philip.warren @

Abstracts must be sent to the above addresses by Friday 25th March when they will be assessed by Philip Warren, Principal Curator of Collections for Leicestershire Museums and Alexandra Kim, Curator of Collections at Kensington Palace.

Notification will be made by 28th April. Rail travel expenses (for the presentation only) and speakers fees of £50 (20 mins) and £100 (50 mins) will be paid to successful speakers.
