Lecturer Position in Fashion Design

Position Description:

Position Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach an annual course load of six, three credit courses during the 10-month academic year; specific courses to be determined based on candidate’s academic/creative specialty.
  • Participate in substantial faculty service efforts, as assigned by Chair, including involvement with student extra-curricular organizations and departmental committees.
  • Assist with departmental outreach, establishing and maintaining industry partnerships, and planning and implementing departmental events.

Position Requirements:

The successful candidate will have:

  • At least one degree in fashion design or apparel merchandising. Exceptional candidates in other fields will be considered as well. A graduate degree is highly desirable.
  • A portfolio of relevant creative and technical design work. The portfolio should demonstrate most of the following skills: fashion illustration, proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, CAD for fashion/portfolio design, technical design work, and apparel design through draping. A sample of the design process taken from conception to execution would be ideal.
  • A minimum of two years teaching experience in an apparel-related program or relevant industry experience. He or she will have a demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of constituents including students, faculty, university administrators, alumni, and representative from industry.
  • Demonstrated his/her ability to work in a team-based environment, recognizing other team members’ skills and capabilities, and providing support/direction that may be beyond job description requirements.

Additional Information: The Department of Apparel Merchandising and Interior Design is seeking a highly qualified educator with significant experience in fashion design to fill a Lecturer position, for an initial appointment of three year beginning fall 2011, at Indiana University’s main campus in Bloomington. This position offers an opportunity to join a growing fashion design program which is enhanced by the renowned 24,000 piece Sage Collection of fashion which is used for research, exhibition, and classroom teaching.
