Position Description: Appointment begins August 2011.  Assistant professor will assume responsibility for teaching textile science, textile science lab, historic costume, and apparel analysis courses or areas that complement other faculty members’ expertise. May teach courses delivered via distance education. Assist in the continuous evaluation and revision of departmental curricula and may perform other duties as assigned. Engaged in scholarly activity and provide service to the Department, College of Education and Human Services, University, and Profession.

Related Information: The Department of Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising and Hospitality offers the Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) with options in Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising and Hotel/Restaurant Management. Approximately fifteen tenure track and associate faculty make up the department’s teaching cadre for the three options.  The Fashion Merchandising program prepares students to be knowledgeable, skilled fashion merchandising managers in a global environment. Students learn apparel buying, visual merchandising, historical costume, social and psychological aspects of fashion and knowledge of textiles in the global marketplace.

Qualifications: Earned doctorate in textile science or a closely related field is desirable; however, consideration will be given to individuals who are completing requirements for the doctorate within one year of the beginning date. 

Preferred qualifications: Industry textile experience and university teaching.  Experience in research and scholarly presentations, professional involvement, and securing external funding.
