Editor’s Week in Review Nov 27

As mentioned, these Editor’s Week in Review posts will show up either Fri or Sat depending on the week. And what a week it’s been.

Sure, it was Thanksgiving, so we had some family fun, eating, and being in fashion it’s no surprise that Friday was filled with going store to store (albeit not the early morning nuts version of Black Friday).

In Personal News–This year I’ve got a lot more than some good shopping deals to be thankful for. On Monday my professor/advisor signed off on my dissertation and all related other items, so I was then able to turn it all in on Tuesday. Meaning, as soon as all the paperwork is processed this upcoming week I officially will have a PhD in Design–Apparel Studies track, History and Culture emphasis (that’s the full title). Excited is not the word to explain how I’m feeling! In a future post I’ll either put up the video or PowerPoint from my oral exam/defense, or I’ll put up the abstract to my dissertation. The topic was Punk Dress and the Workplace which proved to be quite fascinating and provide for tons of future potential for publications.

…In addition, I forgot to mention last week that I had a journal article published with the team I work with on Black Leather Jackets in the International Journal of Motorcycle Studies.

In Worn Through news–Twitter is really picking up for us and we have a lot more followers and retweeting of our posts. If you’re not already following us on Twitter, please do. Thanx! We’re following a bunch of people/institutions as well, and would love to chat with you that way.

General News–Well back to the top of the post, thinking about this week’s Black Friday and gift shopping frenzy, I was reminded yesterday on a trip to J. Crew that Take Ivy was re-printed this time with an English translation. We’ve written about it a handful of times in the past, as have many blogs (most notably The Trad). This would be a fab gift for any fashion-minded friend (or yourself!).

More next week!
