Berg Encyclopedia Event!

I am so excited to tell you about an event happening at my school in the next few weeks. Regents’ Professor Emerita Joanne Eicher (who is also the chair of my dissertation committee) is the editor of the new encyclopedia from Berg. Tons of past and present people from my program worked with her on it, as well as additional distinguished dress scholars from around the world.

It is a brand new 10-volume print edition entitled “Encyclopedia of World Dress and Fashion” and its online portal is BergFashionLibrary.com.

In a few weeks there will be a celebration of the publication that was 7 years in the making. The contributors will share stories and offer an insider’s look at the creation of the first comprehensive reference to explore all aspects of dress and fashion.

“Creating the Encyclopedia of World Dress and Fashion”
Friday, October 22, 2010
4:30–6:30 PM, reception follows program
33 McNeal Hall, University of Minnesota College of Design
1985 Buford Avenue South, St. Paul, MN 55108

Event is free but space is limited. Click here to register by October 14. I’ll be there, so let me know if you’re attending!

Following the presentations, the encyclopedia will be on display along with related objects from the Goldstein Museum of Design. Guests will be able to explore the Berg Fashion Library online. Free sewing kits will be available from Berg while supplies last and one lucky attendee will go home with a set of the encyclopedia (a $2,000 value)!!!

Presenters:

Joanne Eicher, Regents’ Professor Emerita and editor-in-chief
Kathryn Earle, managing director, Berg Publishers; creator of the Berg Fashion Library
John Vollmer, editor of the East Asia volume
Jane Hegland, contributor

Wish I could make it! Sounds so interesting, and a chance to win that Encyclopedia is a very nice incentive.
