Cleveland State University Dramatic Arts Program seeks applicants for Costume Shop Supervisor. Position begins August 17, 2009. This is a 9-month annually renewable academic year position. Summer contract is contingent on available funding. Responsible for the operation and supervision of the costume shop for both the University’s academic and (if funding available) Summer Stages seasons. Ensures proper student training on all shop machinery and equipment. Oversees the use and maintenance of the costume collection. Maintains costume shop budget. Interacts professionally with all internal and external customers using strong interpersonal skills.

Minimum qualifications are:
Bachelor’s degree in Theatre or equivalent professional/academic production experience as demonstrated by portfolio. Demonstrated experience in costume shop management. Knowledge of and general experience in theatrical cutting, stitching and crafts. Ability to read and create patterns. Working knowledge of costume materials including, but not limited to, fabrics, notions, craft supplies. Working knowledge of machinery used in the costume industry, including, but not limited to, industrial and domestic single and multi needle sewing machines, steam irons, cutting tools and dye vats. Previous experience training and/or supervising student workers. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external groups. Ability to work independently, with proven ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Basic computer skills.

Bachelor’s degree in Costumer Design and/or Technology. Basic knowledge of costume history and prior experience working with students and professional theatre artists are preferred.

Salary range is $27,768-$45,786, commensurate with experience.
